Job Description
Build the future of the AI Data Cloud. Join the Snowflake team.
Snowflake Scalable Metadata team builds a scalable metadata system that allows Snowflake to query across petabyte-scale data very efficiently. The micro-partition metadata system is at the heart of Snowflake query performance and core features like zero-copy cloning, time travel and data replication. It is also foundational for new features such as Iceberg Tables.
Solve real business needs at large scale by applying your software engineering and analytical problem solving skills.
Build the next-generation of micro-partition metadata systems to support efficient querying of tables in the tens to hundreds of petabytes
Design and implement core foundational features including metadata caches, micro-partition metadata compaction and micro-partition lifecycle management as well as advanced features built on top of the metadata, such as immutable data archival.
Have the opportunity to work on various background services that power Snowflake's proprietary multi-level metadata system to support fast compilation and query optimization.
Design, develop, and support a highly-parallel and fault-tolerant database system comprising many technologies.
Design and implement critical high-performance systems to handle the ever growing request rate of our database
Analyze and understand performance and scalability bottlenecks in the system and solve them
Ensure operational readiness of the services and meet the commitments to our customers regarding availability and performance.
2+ years industry experience designing, building and supporting large scale systems in production.
Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
Systems programming skills including multi-threading, concurrency, etc. Fluency in C++ or Java (or other similar procedural object-oriented language) is preferred.
Track record of identifying and implementing creative solutions.
Knowledge of database internals is a big plus.
BS in Computer Science; Masters or PhD Preferred

Snowflake is a cloud data platform that provides a data warehouse-as-a-service designed for the cloud. The platform is built for the cloud, focusing on instant, secure, governed access to an entire network of data. It is also built to enable a variety of data workloads, including a single platform for developing modern data applications. At a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions, Snowflake combines the power of data warehousing, the flexibility of big data platforms, and the elasticity of the cloud.
